Patience or Power

2 Peter 3:3-4, 7 “knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? Forever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation. But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.2”(ESV)

Imagine being promised a life-changing gift so significant you can hardly contain yourself. That is the story of Abraham, Adam, Noah, Joseph, and, in many ways, your story too. An incomprehensible future that feels too good to be true at times, yet anchored in a promise.

Peter warns us that scoffers and unbelievers will exploit impatience and misunderstanding. They question not only the promise, but the Promisor. Their aim is subtle. To redirect your focus. To plant doubt. To lull you into settling for the temporary beauty of today instead of the eternal hope ahead.

Verse 7 shifts our perspective with quiet authority. “By the same word. 2” (ESV) The same word that spoke creation into existence still holds it together. Gravity keeps us grounded. Oxygen sustains every breath. Science can describe these realities, but it cannot carry the full weight of their meaning. That burden belongs to faith.

We rest not in what we see, but in what has been promised. A hope beyond today. A future secured by the Creator Himself.

What are you hoping for?
What needs to be removed from your mind?
