Wars are raging, persecution is rising, and the early church feels helpless. Christians are being blamed for the Great Fire of Rome, and Peter knows he is in his last days. That’s the context of this book.
Scofield said, “The thrust of the Epistle is the eloquent and comprehensive denunciation of heresy in doctrine and life.” Peter is not writing theoretical theology. He is sounding an alarm. Verse 14 tells you why: he believes his departure is near. These are last words from a faithful man.
So he begins with identity: you share a faith as precious as gold by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Then he moves to responsibility: grace and peace are multiplied through the knowledge of God. That word “through” matters.
God supplies.
We pursue.
We do not drift into maturity, nor stumble into peace.
Grace and peace grow when you seek the face of God in His Word and let it transform you.
What are you doing to seek knowledge this week?
