1 John 2:1-2
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.2“(ESV)
Raising children, you learn quickly that they’re going to make mistakes. We pray they won’t be life-changing. In Luke 15, Jesus tells of a father with two sons. The youngest demanded his inheritance early. The father gave it. The son squandered everything in reckless living. When he returned home ashamed, the father welcomed him with joy.
I’m a father of four. They’ve all made mistakes, but my love for them never changed. Ever. My heart grieves watching them hurt, and you’ve felt this same agony.
That parental love, running into fire for your children, is a fraction of what Christ has for you.
John’s message flows clearly:
- Fight it. Consequences abound.
- Face it. Repent when you fall.
- Forgiven. Christ paid the price.
- Forward. Don’t stay down. Move.
Spurgeon said it best: “Christ was treated as we deserve, that we might be treated as He deserves.”
Satan wants to keep you trapped in guilt. But that’s not your Father’s response. His arms are always open. Don’t stay down, keep moving forward.
What do you need to stop doing?
How is Satan holding you?
Stay on Mission.
