I John 1:5-7 “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.2”(ESV)
Microbiology teaches that sunlight has disinfecting power. Ultraviolet rays disrupt bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi. Tuberculosis, E. coli, dust mites, and many pathogens cannot tolerate prolonged exposure to light. This is one reason clothes and sheets were once dried outside in the sun.
Darkness allows microbes to thrive. Light disrupts their ability to live.
Jesus used the same imagery in John 3:19–21. People love darkness because their deeds are evil, and they fear exposure. But the one who practices truth comes into the light so it may be clearly seen that his works are done in God.
Ask a law enforcement officer when most violent crime happens. Look where mold grows. It is not in the light.
John tells us that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim fellowship with Him while walking in darkness, we lie. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.
The believer who walks in the light does not fear exposure.
Bring your walk into the light. Expose the deadly virus of sin to the only true cleansing light of Christ.
